About Acacia Rising Counseling

ROXANNE GEORGE, LMFT, Ph.D.

ACACIA RISING COUNSELING was founded by Dr. Roxanne George and Linda Seidel in 2004 in Corvallis Oregon. Roxanne relocated to Bend Oregon in 2008, and has continued with her private practice.

FORMAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Roxanne is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Oregon. Roxanne received her Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science specializing in Family Intervention from Oregon State University; her M.Ed. degree specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Oregon; and her B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: I am committed to growing and learning as a therapist and human being, and participate in over 20 hours of continuing education and trainings per year. I am currently working towards EMDR certification through EMDR HAP (Humanitarian Assistance Program: a nonprofit organization dedicated to the effective treatment of traumatic stress disorders in under served communities in the world).

The Symbolism Behind the Logo

HISTORY: Shekhina is the ancient Hebrew Goddess of wisdom and joy, the feminine part of Yahweh, and the light that dwells within everything. It is said that Shekhina resides at the root of the Acacia Tree, also known as the Tree of Life because it produces gum arabic, the glue that holds the world together.

DESIGN: If you look closely, you will see two faces that shape the trunk of the acacia tree, and a heart filled with all of the colors of the rainbow rising up between them and breaking open. A sliver of the moon (feminine energy) rests upon the upper right side of the heart, and the yellow of the sun (masculine energy) flows between the heart and the roots, intermingling with blue (healing and balancing) energy.

TRANSLATION: When we choose to love, our hearts inevitably are broken open, providing opportunities for growth and healing, as well as for joy and passion. Balancing the masculine and feminine energies within and between us cultivates harmony. Love is sustained when we strive for balance, connection and acceptance within ourselves and others.
